Cupcakes, Burritos, and Video Games!

We had a busy Sat!  But, before leaving the house, mommy busted it to get and Uppercase Living order in and buy George Strait tickets!!!  Nose bleeds, but we're side stage so it'll be worth it!

First stop was to see Mimi at her Rehabilitation Center.  She was in "class" from 9:30-11 so when we got there, she had just finished up and was very tired.  She is doing good; gaining a lot of strength and talking much better.  Caiden was a little scared to see her at first b/c she is missing so much of her hair but once again, he warmed up to her and remembered who she was.  He got to see Poppy too (thanks for the cookies!) but Bebe had gone on a trip to New Orleans!

After seeing Mimi, we went to Target for a pack of diapers and were going to stop at McDonalds for lunch but he fell asleep on the way home.  Even though he was exhausted, he talked to himself in bed from 12:30-1:45 before falling asleep for his nap!

I woke him up a little after 3 so we wouldn't be too late to Reagan's b-day party!  He had fun
watching her open her gifts and eating grapes (that was a first!)  He LoVeD the cupcake and tried to play outside but realized it was too cold!!!  Happy Birthday Reagan!

We met Daddy at home and decided to head over to Taco Bell for dinner...no one was in the mood to cook and we wanted to pick up dessert anyways!  After chomping down his cheese roll-up and eating cheese crackers after dinner while Daddy ran into the store, we headed home for the night.

We bought a V-Smile game system from a co-worker a few weeks (months??!!) back and decided Caiden could probably try to play.  We started with the Dora game and he did a really good job pushing the buttons but Jon had to tell him when to do it.  He actually spent more time putting the games inside the game compartment after we turned the system off!

80 Degree Weather!

Since it was 80 degrees, we decided to get the kids together to play.  They had a blast having races and playing Ring Around the Rosie (sp?!) although Caiden played that game on his own.  Jamey insisted on getting some cute pics!  Check out the last one...priceless!!

Soccer Tots and Jelly Beans-yep, there's a connection!

Oh my goodness.  We did not start out on the right track for Soccer Tots.  Caiden was having too much fun playing on the stairs in the cafeteria at my school and he got really mad when it was time to go to the gym for our first Soccer Tots class!  The first 20 minutes was spent screaming and pitching a fit.

Then, Bebe started giving him Jelly Beans (thanks Jamey =) and he started acting okay!  I just kept them in my pocket and if he got fussy, I had him do the next task so he could have another jelly bean! Hey...don't judge.  I had to get through the class!!!  I know, I know-what good is exercising while popping candy in your mouth?!?!

But, he had a great 2nd half of the class and did much better!  He kicked 4 balls into the goal!!! Maybe next time we'll bypass playing on the stairs first!!!

Improvements

We went to the hospital yesterday to visit Mimi and she looked SO much better.  A lot of her swelling had gone down and she was awake 90% of the time we were there.  She definitely knew who we were and she LOVED watching Caiden color with Bebe.  He was a little scared to see her with all of the tubes and a bandaged head, but he knew she was hurt and we were there to tell her to get better.  She will be moved to rehab soon!  Her speech is hard to understand although we can make out some of the words she is saying.
On another note...Jon's 7th grade B team won the consolation bracket in their tournament this weekend.  He was excited about that!  Caiden tends to run out on the court so we stayed home an played on his "playgound!"

It's Almost the Weekend...

Jon is back to his normal self, and although Caiden and I have had some pinkish eyes, we are chalking it up to allergies and NOT pink eye again (but, we're using the drops just in case!!!)

I got my hair done yesterday and it was the wrong shade!!!  TOO light and almost reddish.  YUCK.  Headed back in Friday afternoon for a new color!

Mimi is out of ICU!!!  She is having speech testing done tomorrow.  She tries to talk but it is difficult to make out her words.  Mom finally figured out after Mimi was asking for her pencil and a mirror for some time, that she wanted to "put on her eyebrows!"  Leave it up to a 90 year old who just underwent major brain surgery to want to put on her make-up!  And she's trying to wink at the male nurses!!!  What a hoot =)

Caiden had a playdate with his friend Addi tonight.  We went and played at her house and ordered pizza.  Yummy!  He said, "Mama, this good!"  Jon had his first b-ball tournament game tonight so we were on our own for dinner.  Might as well cook with friends!

We are desperately looking forward to the weekend.  I'm ready to see Mimi again and get caught up on bills, cleaning the house, and laundry.  I know it seems silly to want to do some of those things but man, I feel so much better when it's done!  Oh, and we get to see Christina's hair at the UL living party she is having at her house...CAN'T WAIT!!!

WHAT??!!

Ok, so Jon looked like he got hit by a bus today.  He was doing better yesterday, but now worse again.  I made him go to the Dr.  and he tested positive for the flu, type A.  WHAT??!!  Really.  No fun.  He's quarantined to the bedroom =)

Mimi is making SLOW progress.  She opened both eyes today!  Another catscan showed that her head still looks good but the doctors are concerned about the lack of responsiveness she has.  They may do a brain wave scan??? to see the activity in her brain.  Still breathing on her own though!

If Caiden and I don't get the flu, we're bound to get sick from too much Lysol.  I am PARANOID and spraying everything...twice!

Ready For a New Week!

This week has been a beating!

Pink Eye--check
Ear Infection--check
Laryngitis--check
Fever--check
Round trip to Austin in less than 24 hours--check
ICU waiting room--check
16 kids hyped up on sugar for an hour (3 were absent!!!)--check
Rain, 1 hour after getting a car wash--check
Dog eating a box of valentine chocolates--check

I am so ready for a fresh start!  We drove to Austin after work Friday night (Mimi was still sedated and I didn't think I could do anything here) and got to see Grandma and Aunt Casey for a few hours before bedtime.  But, Jon woke up with a fever, and with Brenda recovering from her surgery, we didn't want to take any chances getting her sick.  So, we packed up and were on the road by 11am.  He laid in bed all day while Caiden and I ran some errands then went to dinner with mom, dad, and Aunt TT.  Happy Valentine's Day!

Mimi is still sedated.  They tried removing the ventilation tube this morning and it didn't go so well.  Too early???  They took her in for a Catscan this evening and we'll find the results out in the morning.  I think they will try again with the ventilation tube Sunday as well.  If it doesn't go smoothly, I'm not sure what will happen.  Hopefully her body will be strong enough to make it.  The part of her brain effected by the blood is the "breathing section."

My voice has started coming back, accompanied by a cough.  And, Caiden finished his last round of ear drops tonight.  Maybe we're in the clear...

When It Rains It Pours...

We got an unexpected phone call that Mimi, my dad's mom, had a seizure on Tuesday.  We were told that the surgery to remove the blood from her brain was going to be too hard on her and that she would be a vegetable for the rest of her life if she survived it.  According to the Dr. she had severe brain damage.  Dad didn't want to take her ventilator out on Tuesday night and had made plans to do it Wednesday afternoon.  However, she started responding to the nurse's commands and now things have completely turned around.  They feel like we won't know the extent of her recovery unless we do the surgery.  Dad is meeting with the surgeon this morning and I think she will go in for surgery this afternoon.  One minute we were planning the funeral and now we have hope!

Caiden woke up with pink eye again and I lost my voice so we are home today relaxing.  Sister flies in this afternoon and we should make it to the hospital by the time Mimi is out of surgery.

February

We started off the month with Caiden getting pink eye on them morning of his two year check-up (good timing I guess!)  The poor guy had yucky crusty junk covering his eyes but it only lasted two days.  The eye drops were GREAT but not so fun to put in.  One day left!  His 2-year check-up was great...he is apparently on the level of a beginning 3 year old so I'd say he's on track!  Here are some of the things he's doing now:
-knows how
 to spell his name
-name all of the colors (including magenta and gray)
-count up to 13
-name all of the shapes (including a crescent and an octagon!)
-still loves sucking his thumb
-not a very good eater...hates trying new things (unless it's
 sweet...he knows somehow!)
-talking in complete sentences (short ones =)

He weighed 32 lbs. and is 37 1/2 inches tall.  He's a big one!  Still off the charts of course!

***
On Sat. I went with Shannon, and my new recruit, Julie from high school, to an Uppercase event.  We had a great time getting updates with from the company and doing make and take projects.  LOVE getting new ideas!  The new Spring/Summer catalog has so many great ideas!

After I got home, we noticed Caiden's ear draining...I've never seen this before.  There was actually liquid dripping out.  So wierd!  Back to the Dr. at 7pm on Sat. night (thank goodness the FastER on Renner!)  He had an ear infection but the tube that we couldn't see due to wax at his 2 year is still in his left ear and doing its job!!!  So, add ear drops and an antibiotic to the list!
